HELP - Decoupage - bleaurghhhh!!!!

Does anyone else make a card and absolutely hate it? Well I have and this is one of them!

My Dad plays bowls and back in January when I first started playing with paper and making cards, I saw this "fab" decoupage sheet and thought "that'll do for Father's Day". When I got it out today, I knew that I'd made a big mistake as I was totally un-inispired by it, but decided I'd roll with it anyway!

I'm not sure what's wrong with the card (other than it's pants) - is it the colours, maybe white would've been better? Is it the size of the decoupage? Is it the sentiment? I don't know, all I do know is that I hate this card, so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions (other than binning it, which may well happen), please feel free to let me know.

Oh and btw I am never, ever, ever going to buy decoupage sheets again, gimme my stamps any day!

Thank you very much ladies for all your help and advice. I'm still not thrilled with the card, but it's looking heaps better. I think I'll stick to my stamps and paint brushes in future!!  Here's the new version:

  1. You're too hard on yourself, I think it's a fine card for a man. I've answered you on MSE but the only thing I would change is the base of the easel to tone the green down a bit.

  3. Hi I think that shade of green is very dense & hard to work with - I know I've tried! (for football cards) I love the image & think that's fine, don't bin it your Dad will love it! Could you put the sentiment on a different colour, maybe silver or gold?

  4. I axtually really really like it, I think the green works! Maybe you could add something to the other side of the bottom easel? A button or something so it doesn't,t look blank? I think it is fine though. X

  6. I can see where you're coming from with the green but I think the others are right or.. use a white cardy card to represent the jack amongst your brown ones.

  7. I think it looks great perhaps something to tone the green down as others have said.

  11. I think it's a brilliant card but I must admit I prefer your 2nd one (the green was a bit overpowering). Bet your dad loved it. Jaqui x
