Grrr to Mr Bloggies scheduling widget it failed :(
It's challenge time over at Stampotique and this week they want to see you stamp an image twice. I decided that I'd use this an opportunity to play with my inks and distress stains to produce a picture for my daughter's room. Despite a couple of hiccups, I'm glad that I choose to do this as it was a good learning curve for me!
I started off by stamping the image Stella onto my acrylic block, I then used the second impression from this to stamp onto the card. I then carefully stamped Stella directly onto the card. Both images were coloured with pencils before being covered with a mask. I then created the sky and water using Distress Inks. The grassy bank and reflections in the water were created with Distress Stains (I'm not sure why I haven't used these on more projects as they really are fab). Once I'd removed the masks I added more inks as and where necessary. To finish the picture was mounted onto some black card ready for framing.
This is the one that I did in rough, but decided that the image was the wrong colour and that it was a little too "moody" and not quite pretty enough!!! I also used tissue paper for the reflection and messed things up there!!! In addition I discovered that the card I was using didn't like modelling paste or spray inks!! I'm not going to throw the background away though, as I think I can remove the images with care and will use an image that will sit perfectly with the "dark" background, namely Smushasha.
Thanks for stopping by

I'd like to enter this picture into the following challenges:
Simon Says Stamp & Show - Anything Goes
Stunning Claire I love the moody one at the bottom appeals to my eye xxx Hugs Pascale
ReplyDeleteI love that moody one too,its my fave. I think it looks like Stella is in the dark forest, the first more suitable for your daughter's room I imagine, being calm and softer .
ReplyDeleteYou've used Stella beautifully on both pieces, but I guess you have to keep all your Stampotique mermaid fans happy and so would work either way. :0)
Love your painty side...I find it amazing how you can go from 'dress form' to 'distress stains' in one giant leap.
Wow Claire, absolutely fantastic! I would use both of them, they are gorgeous and would be beautiful side by side!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning - I love the bottom moody one - just how I feel at the mo lol!
ReplyDeleteFantastic reflection btw
xx
oh wow Hun,both are simply stunning just adore the amazing effect you have achieved on both of,them, brilliant, hugs Cherylxxxxx
ReplyDeleteHi Claire
ReplyDeleteWow hun these are fabulous. I prefer the lighter one of the two - although they are both fab. Another way to do a reflection is to run a brayer over your stamp and then run the brayer over the card before you start all the other stamping. I'd love to see what you make if you try this method. Gorgeous creations.
big hugs

Hi Dawn
DeleteThanks for stopping by again. I've used the brayer method before, the only problem I had with it was that I found it tricky to get the positioning on the paper (probably cos I'm left handed and work across my work all the time!). I think with more practice/planning the tissue paper technique will be the way to go as it also adds texture to the piece. I'll definately give the brayer another shot though - it'll save it gathering dust! :D
